Pythagorus – His Philosophy in Aphorisms

A talk by visiting lecturer, Dr. N. C. Ramanujachary. Greek Philosophy and philosophers flourished in history from 600 B.C and 600 A.D. Pythagorus was the scholar who coined the term “philosophy” (= Love of Wisdom) and started his own school at Crotona. While his mathematical (Geometrical) equation is popular in academic study, not much is reckoned of his Theory of Numbers (Sankhya Sastra) and its correspondence to Cosmos and Man, which falls more in the philosophic domain. His Aphorisms are considered “Golden Verses”; they deal with the human conduct and behavior, ethics based on philosophy of existence and the Parama Purushartha (Ultimate purpose of Human existence on Earth). The aphorisms correspond and have a bearing to the four distinct natures available (physical, psychic, spiritual and divine) in Man.
