Meet the 8th International President of The Theosophical Society

Come and meet Bro Tim Boyd, our 8th International President.

Bro Tim Boyd has visited the Singapore Lodge several times before, the first time on 6 August 2005 and again on 16 August 2008 and 14 January 2012. This will be his first visit since his election on 27 April 2014 as the Eighth International President of The Theosophical Society.

It is a great honour to have the new International President with us on this occasion. Bro. Tim Boyd is looking forward to addressing members of the Singapore Lodge Theosophical Society and he will also be giving a talk on this occasion.

The title of his talk is A Convergence of Wisdoms, the synopsis of which follows:

“Zen master Shunryo Susuki made the statement that ‘In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s there are few.’ Modern times have been characterized by an ever-increasing specialization of knowledge to a point where even within fields of medicine, physics, philosophy, religion, and the arts, meaningful contact is difficult. The ageless wisdom tradition asserts the possibility of a unity among the various approaches to an understanding that lies beyond knowledge”.

The Restoration of the Mysteries

Choong Chi Pin gives the first of a two-part talk based on the lecture of the same title delivered by Annie Besant in London on 8th June 1913.

On the lecture, Annie Besant says,

“The very title of this lecture obviously implies certain ideas on the part of the speaker. First, that the speaker believes that such things as ‘Mysteries’ exist or have existed; clearly that they existed in the past, otherwise the word ‘restoration’ would be inapplicable; but the presence of that word in the title also implies the thought on the part of the speaker that restoration is possible. It is within the limits of that phrase that I want, if I can, to lead your thoughts tonight to these great possibilities, the evolution of which from within the man is not impossible...”
