Letters No. 73 & 74
DO
NOT MISS !!!
LETTER No. 73.—The letter
has to do principally with Edmund W. Fern’s training and a letter which the
Master K. H. is sending to A. O. Hume in reply to a long one from him. Fern
was serving as a secretary to Hume and probably living in his house. Fern
was somewhat of a psychic and the Mahatma considered that he might have some
valuable potential for the transmission of messages. He joined the
Theosophical Society and was elected secretary of the Simla Eclectic
Theosophical Society. The Mahatma M took an interest in him and accepted him
as a chela on probation.
Evidently, Fern annoyed
Hume and the latter wrote to the Mahatma K. H. about it and undertook to
instruct the Mahatmas as to what they should do about it. His letter to the
Mahatma K. H. put the latter in a somewhat embarrassing position.
Fern, incidentally,
failed his probation later on and was expelled from the Theosophical
Society. There are two entries about him in Olcott’s diaries not included in
ODL but noted by C. Jinarajadasa. Evidently these are among the diary
entries on file in the archives at the international headquarters of the T.S.,
Adyar, but not included in Olcott’s published books.
LETTER No. 74.—This long
letter was written by the Master K. H. to A. O. Hume with an appendage by
the Master M asking A. P. Sinnett not to deliver it. The letter deals mostly
with the difficulties that the Adepts are having with Hume and particularly
those connected with his secretary, Edmund W. Fern. This is a long and
valuable letter for the serious student, even though it never reached its
intended recipient.
As contents of this
letter are substantial we may need two sessions to completely
cover this one letter.

The
Christian Creed
Chong Sanne talks
on the Apostles’, Nicene and Athanasian Creeds based on theosophical
knowledge. This is more of a theosophical lecture than a religious programme
as the origin of the Christian Creed includes an ancient formula of
cosmogenesis which will be discussed.
This programme is
restricted to members.

In
The Outer Court
Bro. Choong Chi Pin
starts on a new book study of In The Outer Court a book by
Annie Besant.
The book covers the
journey of the aspirant from the Outer Court to the inner Sanctum Sanctorum
involving purification of self, controlling of thoughts and building up of
character. Then a process of Spiritual Alchemy, the transmutation of forces
at the lower levels to higher purposes, ensues, which results in crossing
the threshold.

Letter No. 75
DO
NOT MISS !!!
LETTER No. 75.—This
letter is a rather fascinating one, showing as it does both the delightful
sense of humour and the great erudition of the Mahatma K.H. He seems to have
read (whether in books or in the Akashic records) practically everything and
to know all kinds of odd facts in many fields — history, geology, etc. In
Letter 75, we take up the next letter which the Mahatma K. H. wrote to
Sinnett on the day following that on which he posted his note enclosing the
letter to Hume. From a statement in the letter itself, it seems that this
letter was written on 23 August 1882, and it was probably received shortly
thereafter. Letter 74 is the long letter to Hume which, apparently, at M’s
suggestion, was never sent to Hume.

APPENDIX II ― View of the
Chohan on the T. S. This is certainly the most important letter ever
received from the adept teachers, as it is a communication from the Maha
Chohan (‘to whose insight the future lies like an open page’― Master K. H.),
one of the three great Adepts who form the ‘triangle’ of the great
Hierarchy. As the note from the Master K.H. says, the communication is not a
letter written by the Maha Chohan himself, but the report of an interview.
This letter is regarded by students practically as the Charter of the
Theosophical Society. Every earnest student should study and remember the
contents of this letter.
