Letter No. 68 (continued)

Devachan

DO NOT MISS !!!

LETTER No. 68.—This is a ‘Question and Answer’ letter in which A. P. Sinnett asks questions and the Master K. H. answers them.

This letter is often referred to as the ‘Devachan Letter’, since it is devoted principally to that subject. It is of a technical nature and contains many words and phrases that will be unfamiliar to some students. One should keep in mind the fact that this was all new ground for A. P. Sinnett and he often did not know how to frame intelligent questions. Generally, the questions and answers in this letter are not difficult to understand. The Mahatma lists the principles and describes what happens to them in Devachan. He refers Sinnett to a page number in the current issue of The Theosophist in ‘Fragments of Occult Truth’. Sinnett lists these in his book, Esoteric Buddhism, which was largely developed from the ‘Fragments’. They are found on p. 13 of that book, with a commentary.

As contents of this letter are substantial we would probably need three sessions to completely cover this one letter.

6th March 2010  5 p.m.*

I’m Dead! Now What?

This illustrated programme by Richard Brooks explores the veracity of religious and Theosophical theories on life after death in three parts. Part I looks at some Western theories. Part II explores Eastern theories, including those of Hinduism and Buddhism, while Part III examines two theosophical theories of life after death.

This programme is restricted to members.

What is God?

Our Hon. Secretary, Lily Chong, will talk on this somewhat controversial subject that seems to divide humanity. Most of us have a need for God, yet there is little we know about Him. Does He exist? Indeed, what is God? See March 2010 newsletter.

This programme is restricted to members.

Letter No. 69 and LBS-Appendix I

DO NOT MISS !!!

LETTER No. 69.—This letter appears to be a follow-up to Letter 68 and answers a few questions which arose out of that letter. APS and AOH were both in Simla.

LBS-Appendix I is an article published in The Theosophist for October 1881 on Death by  (the late) Eliphas Levi. The page has marginal comments in K.H.'s writing which are printed here in small bold type parallel with the text of the article, and to which the numbers in brackets refer.

20th March 2010  5 p.m.

Occult Chemistry

In Occult Chemistry, micro-psi examination by CWL and Annie Besant in the late 19th and early 20th century of atoms of many elements helps to explain the findings of modern science and hints at the future of the universe.

Our Asst. Secretary, Bro. Tang Kwok Choon, will talk on this interesting subject. and its interpretation in the light of new findings in the field of high energy physics. Bro. Kwok Choon who obtained his B. Sc. (Hons) degree in Chemistry, is a trained Chemist.

LBS-199, Letters 70-A, 70-B & 70-C

DO NOT MISS !!!

LBS-199.—This precipitated note in the handwriting of K.H. was followed by the following comment by H.P.B.: "And now he must needs precipitate here too! Very much obliged to him anyhow, one trouble less on my shoulders. Found the precipitation on opening the wrapper. H. P. B.".

These three letters (No. 70A, B, and C) would be very confusing without some knowledge of their background. In October 1881, The Theosophist published an article by Eliphas Levi entitled “Death.” This article may now be found as Appendix I in LBS. Eliphas Levi and this article are referred to several times in ML; the article became the subject of some discussion and differences of opinion. Studying the contents of these three letters becomes quite complicated because some of the questions asked in both 70-A and 70-B are answered in 70-C. However, the Mahatma has inserted identifying numbers or letters, and so, by going back and forth between the three letters, some order emerges

As contents of this letter are substantial we would probably need two sessions to completely cover this one letter.

27th March 2010  5 p.m.

The Inner Life

Bro. Kam Chai Heng continues his book study of “The Inner Life” by C. W. Leadbeater. He continues with the study of the Fifth Section, The Ego and his vehicles.
