SELF and Its Sheaths
Choong Chi Pin
gives the sixth of his talks based on four lectures delivered by Annie Besant on
the 19th Anniversary of The Theosophical Society at the Headquarters in
Adyar in 1894.
Annie Besant says,
"What is Desire? Desire
is the outgoing energy of Atma, working in the manomayakosha astral
body + lower mind), and attracted by external objects. That is, desire is
outward-going energy attracted from without, and its direction governed from
without. What is Will? Will is the outgoing energy of Atma working in his
vignanamayakosha (higher mind), and dealing no longer with choice
directed from without, but with choice initiated from within, moulded on the
internal images by a process of discriminative reflection. So that the
outgoing energy is guided from within in its direction, whereas in desire it
is attracted from without......."
