The Devas (Part II)
Brandon Goh
continues his talk on devas. He says,
“Lower devic life is
fascinating, educative — even comical. The consciousness and behavior of
nature spirits, although radically different from ours, could nonetheless
teach us much about our own. The gulf between their consciousness and ours
illuminates a similar expanse between us and the Great Ones, and hence this
study opens another window to the vast firmament of spiritual evolution.”

Avatâras
Choong Chi Pin
gives his 5th talk based on the four lectures delivered
by Annie Besant in December 1899 on Avatâras. The four
lectures given by Annie Besant were What is an Avatâra?; The
Source of and Need for Avatâras; Some Special Avatâras; and
Shri Krishna. This month he continues with the narrative on The Puranas.
Annie Besant says:
"I have made this
introduction in order to show you that when you read the Purânas you
consistently get the fact on the higher plane described in terms of the
lower, with the result that it seems unintelligible, seems incomprehensible.
Then you have what is called an allegory, that is, a reality which looks
like a fancy down here, but is a deeper truth than the illusion of physical
matter, and is nearer to the reality of things than the things which you
call objective and real."

Early Members of the Theosophical Society - A. P. Sinnett
Our VP, Tang Kwok
Choon, continues his talk on the pioneers and early members of the
Theosophical Society. This month he talks about Alfred Percy Sinnett.
Sinnett is a notable
figure in the history of the Theosophical Society for a number of reasons,
most importantly the exchange of letters that took place between him and
certain Masters or Mahâtmas, in particular the Masters KH and M. The
correspondence began in 1879 and continued until 1886.
Sinnett must be the most
important of the early members of the TS. If not for his correspondence with
the Master KH and Master M we will be so much the poorer in esoteric
knowledge. We shall look at the contributions by A. P. Sinnett to the
Society.
