2009 July Programme

4th July 2009  5 p.m.

Talk on Vegetarianism

In conjunction with the 2009 Singapore Meatout Week, the President of the Vegetarian Society (Singapore), Dr. George Jacobs, will give a talk on Vegetarianism. This programme reviews key reasons for eating less or no meat: human health, environmental protection and kindness towards other humans and other animals. Next, we look at some reasons why people are reluctant to reduce their meat consumption and ways to address those reasons for continuing to eat large amounts of meat. Short videos will be shown, and questions, suggestions and other perspectives are solicited.

George Jacobs, Ph.D. (Educational Psychology), is president of Vegetarian Society (Singapore) – www.vss.sg  – a non-profit, non-religious organization formed in 1999. He also edits the Society’s eNewsletter. In his regular job, Dr Jacobs works in Education for NIE, MOE and elsewhere. He has been a vegetarian for almost 30 years. George enjoys giving talks like this and has done so for a wide variety of audiences in Singapore, as well as in Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Brazil, Germany and India.
